Doc Manager Features
Here is the full set of Doc Manager features organized by section:

Global Perspective
  • The document management window has tree main elements: the tool bar at the top (1); the folder tree on the left panel (2) and the document area on the right panel (3). All icons on the tool bar show a hint box when you move your mouse over them. The selected folder on the folder tree is highlighted, and the files and sub-folders on that folder are showned on the document area.



  • You can call the context menu with a right click on your mouse. Different options apear on the context menu depending if you are on the tree view, on the document area panel (the panel on the right) over a file or on the white area.

Custom Operations
  • You can create a new folder with a click on the icon ( ) on the toolbar on the top. You can also create a new text file or a folder by using the new option on the context menu when you have your mouse on the white area on the document area panel.



    Then a window will popup to allow you to choose the name for your folder or text file. This popup window can be moved with drag and drop on the title bar, to allow you to see any existing file bellow this popup window.


  • You can open a folder or a file by using the option open on the context menu.
    If you open a folder you will change to that folder and show its content on the document area.
    If the file type is a knowned file type (like .txt, .htm, .js or .php) the Doc Manager will open the content in a new windows using a specific interface for it. If the file is of an unknowned type it will allow to download the file to your local computer.



  • You can upload a file either by clicking on the icon ( ) or by the upload option in the menu. You can call the context menu with a right click on your mouse on the document panel (the panel on the right).



    Then a standard upload window will open to allow you to select any kind of document to upload. In the image below we have a Windows Vista interface, but the functionality is similar in every operating system.

    You are also able to upload multiple files available on the same file browser window. Usually the online document managers only allow one file at a time, or at most heve several file field, but the user must open several windows to upload several files. With this upload feature, you can select several files in only one operation.


    After the upload order files are uploaded using Ajax with a status bar to show progress.
  • You can cut, copy and paste files and folders as you would do on Windows Explorer. You can do it either by using the icons on the toolbar ( ) or by using the same options on the edit menu. Obviously, the paste option only appears after you first do a copy or cut operation.


  • You are able to delete a file or folder either by using the icon ( ) on the icon bar or by using the delete option on the edit menu. If several files are selected then you will be able to delete all of them at the same time. Before proceeding with deletion a confirmation window appears.


  • You are able to rename a file or folder using the rename option on the context menu. You can only rename one file or folder at a time. If several files and folders are selected then the rename option will not be available on the context menu. The rename window will appear so that you can say what is the new name for the file.



Advanced Operations
  • You are able to use different views like in Windows folders. You can select you view using the icons on the toolbar ( ), or you can use the viewSeveral views like in Windows Explorer (Icon view; List view; Details view and Thumbnails view)



    On the Icon view it is showned an icon for each file and the file name. If the file is of an knowned type then the proper icon will appear.
    On the List view a small icon is showned on the left side of the file name.
    On the Details view you will see the icon, the file name, the file size (in bytes), the date and time of creation/insertion on Doc Manager and the description entered by the user on each file.
    On the thumbnails view you will see thumbnails of all imagens in knowned formats (.gif, .jpg, .png) in small sizes. The images are automatically created on upload and updates.
  • You are able to use advance search in order to find the file you are looking for. The advance search allows you to search by all the information stored in the file (name, description, file type, file size, tags), but it does not search in the content of files.



  • You are able to call the properties page for each file or folder.



  • You are able to call help from the context menu. At the moment this menu options are empty.












Views
  • Several views like in Windows Explorer (Icon view; List view; Details view and Thumbnails view)
  • Generation of thumnails when uploading images (gif, jpg, png) for faster view in thumbnails view
Upload, Update, Download and Link
  • Able to update a file with a new one. Old versions of the file are kept.
  • Able to select several files with the mouse.
  • Able to download a file stored. If several files are selected, then the download operation will create a zip file and download that zip file.
  • Able to get a link that directly refers to a specific file. With this link you can send it in an email to a friend.
Drag and Drop
  • You are able to move files and folders using drag and drop either between

Extra Information for Files and Folders
  • Able to add a description and tags to each file/folder.
  • Able to search for file name, description and tags.
Integration with Applications
  • Able to integrate with login from other applications.
  • Able to set access options (view, read, write, edit) for several users. Able to integrate access features with other applications.
